The European Foundation for Quality Management has produced the EFQM Excellence Model (see above). This model allows any organization, whether private or public sector, for profit or not-for-profit, to assess itself against a "World-Class" and "Best-in-Class" standard.

The model works by allocating numerical scores against the various elements which go to make up a top-class organization. Your organization is assessed against the relevant criteria and a score is allocated.

More importantly, by matching your organization against the model criteria, your Strengths and Areas for Improvement can be readily identified, thus providing a clear indication of those activities which you need to conduct to close the gap between you and "World-Class" or "Best-in-Class" organizations or indeed, if you are already "World-Class", to further improve your dominant position.
